Two years ago, two of my friends were diagnosed with cancer within weeks of each other.  One friend, a young mother of two, passed away last year just after Thanksgiving.  The second friend, married 33 years and the mother of four adult children, has been near death for the past several weeks.  The following is my journal entry from Sunday, June 10th, 2007.

Sunday morning; 6:50 am

Peggy must be close to death because she, her husband and children have been on my mind constantly.  Soon, she will pass from death to victory and from a life honorably and lovingly lived to the reward Christ bestows on those who have been faithful and which now awaits her in Heaven.

I can almost see Jesus rising from his throne as He calls for her crown to be brought to him so that all may be made ready for her arrival.  I see an angel place it in His nail scarred hands and it shimmers with gold and gems of indescribable beauty.  Then, followed by a joyful throng of singing angels and the worshipping Redeemed whose robes gleam with hot white brilliance, the Savior comes to the gates of pearl.

And there He stands, crown in hand, waiting for his daughter to come home.

*Three hours later, my Pastor interuppted worship to announce He had just received the call that Peggy had gone to be with the Savior whom she so adored and although I wept with grief for the loss of such a precious friend, I rejoiced as I envisoned her joy to be in Paradise, her body completely made whole, forever and ever and ever to be with the Lord.

“Then we who are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air. And thus we shall always be with the Lord.”  1 Thessalonians 4:17

“Goodbye my sweet friend, I will be looking forward to having tea with you at my kitchen table in the Kingdom of Heaven.  We will make a big pot because there will be no time constraints or interruptions.  Our conversation will be filled with laughter and joy because all worries will have long been forgotten.

Oh, what a day that will be.

Love,

Sherri”
