We love the Gulf Coast beaches, and are all sick about the spill. My eight-year-old son, a master of spills himself, is trying to figure out just how BP could have made such a mess.
“So, let me get this straight,” he said. “They made this thing way down on the bottom of the ocean to get oil and it moved a little bit or something and now it is all spilling out…”
“Not exactly,” I tell him. “It blew up and when it did it broke the pipe. That let the oil gush out just as if you removed the nozzel from the hose and failed to shut off the water. The difference is, that we can just turn the spigot off, but they can’t do that.”
“Why not? What happened to it? (the oil well spigot)
“Nothing,” I said. “They did not have one.”
“Well, that’s dumb,” he responded.
“Yeah….”
