The Pope has created a firestorm with his new book in which he debunks many of the traditions associated with the birth of Jesus.
People really, really hate it when their traditions aren’t necessarily factual.
Many of the common misconceptions concerning the Christmas story stem not from the Biblical text but from a book written 200 years after the birth of Christ. This “expanded account” was written by a non-Jew with no understating of either 1st century Jewish customs or even the geography of the land. It was entitled The Protevangelium of James.
