I am sorry I slept through your arrival. The only thing I wanted to see drop was the inside of my eyelids. I am somewhat regretful that I didn’t buy sparkling grape juice and party hats for the kids. Oh, well. Maybe next year.
2014, we need to have a serious conversation. The truth is, I have pretty high expectations for you. Honestly, I don’t want to hear any whining about it. Many years have come and gone, each with their own joys and struggles. So many years of my adult life have stretched on in the same protracted longing for deliverance, the all too familiar yearning for release, healing…becoming.
But some years are special. These years are born to be immortalized in photos and remembered with bittersweet tears. You, 2014, are one of these years.
You are the year of the harvest, the year of deliverance, the year of long-fought battles won. You are the blessed year of great joy.
But for one with a destiny so weighty you must know you will also be the year of dark moments and rending sorrows. One simply cannot be the bearer of such a bright new day without also tasting of the night.
Do not fear, 2014. You were meant for this and I have long awaited your arrival.
Let us step forward together, hand in hand, with our eyes forever on our compassionate, faithful Savior as our guide. He goes before us illuminating the darkness. His presence will enwrap us with courage, comfort, and peace. By His Spirit we will find the power to honor Him on the journey.
Oh, 2014, let’s go! I am so very glad you are here.
