I stopped to say hello to a man and his dog outside of Home Depot. The dog was a medium sized mixed breed the color of butterscotch. Her eyes were gentle.
“Do you have a dog?” the man asked.
“Yes,” I replied, “I have two- a grumpy little schnauzer and a 70 lb rescue mutt.”
“Oh,” he said, “my dog is a rescue too, but she is also a rescuer! She is good at finding the lost. She has found lost puppies, children, cats…and even a bird once!”
“She has a couple of $500.00 rewards to her credit but we don’t keep them. We give them to the animal shelter.”
I told him how wonderful that was, said my good-byes and went on my way.
The rescued became the rescuer…what a beautiful picture of how God wants His redeemed children to live.
We who have received comfort from Christ are to pass that comfort on to others. (2 Corinthians 1:4)
We who have been brought home are to show others the way. (2 Corinthians 5:20)
We who have been forgiven are to forgive others. (Matthew 6:12)
We, the rescued, are called to joyfully pass along the grace we have received.
Really like that! The rescued become the rescuers. That is beautiful! And challenging.
Thanks, Cath!
Amen!!! and thank you
