Too Much of “The Pain”, Not Enough of the “I Love You”

Alastor The Monster Mutt decided to greet the day at 5:00 a.m. this Saturday morning. I stumbled out of bed, one eye open, and shuffled into the bathroom to find my toothbrush. He sat at my feet as I was brushing my teeth, and bumped his big head up under my free hand so that it rested on the top of his head.photo

“You are a pain,” I mumbled around the toothbrush, “but I love you.”

It hurts to be this honest but…I think that is how I feel about my life sometimes. I am a mother of five- four adolescents and one young adult. I am a writer too and that whole thing has gotten pretty busy lately. Life is full to the breaking point.

It is easy to get really tired. Too focused on my task lists.

Then…all I see is “the pain” and not enough of the “I love you.”

A wonderful post over at Becoming Minimalist helped reorient my focus this morning. I hope you will take the time to read it. When I finished it, I looked around and realized some really wonderful things-20140617-070905-25745500.jpg

I have five delightful children- a long awaited firstborn son, a snarky sweet oldest daughter, a daughter adopted from Haiti who I thought might never come home, a baby boy with dimples in his cheeks who isn’t such a baby anymore, a baby girl adopted from Haiti who should have never made it home alive…

I get paid to write. I have a great publisher. (Thanks Thomas Nelson/Harper Collins Christian!) I waited nineteen years for this career and I have it! It is like winning the lottery or something. Arms Open Widejpeg

I have a fantastic monster mutt who was once so abused that he curled into a ball and lost control of his bladder when he heard male footsteps. Now, he has learned to love and..even play.

I could go on and on and on…

But I will leave you with some time to visit Becoming Minimalist. You won’t regret it.
